Why save settings WordPress Customizer?
Most modern WordPress themes allow you to customize the so-called WordPress Customizer (appearance → Customize). There you can change the colors, customize the site header, footer, menu, site, add widgets, etc.
Advanced premium themes these settings a lot more, but most of the others assembled here are the basic things.
If, for example, you developed and configured the website on a test server or local machine, it would be convenient then to transfer all these settings of the design to the finished website, isn’t it?
You can transfer all the settings without having to go into the database and website files.
Let’s see how this can be done on WordPress.
How to save settings in WordPress Customizer?
First we need to install the free plugin Customizer Export/Import:
After installing and activating the plugin navigate to appearance → Customize.
For starters, let’s try to export the settings of the theme. At the bottom of the settings list you will see a new item Export/Import:
Go to this menu and click Export:
The plugin will save all your settings in the WordPress Customizer and upload them to a file with the extension .dat which you can download from the browser and stored locally on the computer.
Keep in mind that this file will not be stored absolutely all settings from the admin panel, for example, site title, site description, and everything else that does not directly relate to configuration of the subject — will not be saved.
Similarly, if you want to import a previously saved configuration, you need to just go to the menu appearance → Customize → Export/Import.
Then click ‘Choose file’ and select your .dat file with the settings. Also tick the ‘Download and import image files’ if you want to import images to customize website headers and other areas where you asked pictures.
Don’t forget to click the Import button. After that the previously saved settings will be loaded to the website, and you will immediately see changes in the preview window.
